Summer Art Class Schedule

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced art classes resume this summer under the direction of Shannon Kupfer, THELMA’s curator and arts education coordinator.

Programming includes something for everyone. There are great opportunities for groups to gather for a class with a beverage. Studio 51, which are classes for children and families returns. And there are adult art classes for those who want to explore.

THELMA members receive 20% discount. Click here to reserve your spot. THELMA will follow all local health and CDC guidelines related to COVID-19. Capacity will be limited. Pre-registration encouraged to ensure spot.

June Class Schedule

Thursday, June 3

A Glass with Your Class: “Brush and a Beverage” 5:30pm – 7:30pm | Ages 21+
60’s and 70’s night! Learn some abstract painting techniques while listening to your favorite throwback tunes! Pick and choose the techniques that speak to you and create a unique artwork. Dressing up and singing along encouraged. Dig out your tie dye and bellbottoms and don’t miss this class! Your first drink is on us.

 

Wednesday, June 9

Studio 51: “Pollack Splatter Silhouette” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
In this messy and fun class, we are drawing inspiration from the artist Jackson Pollack. We will create a self-portrait silhouette by tracing our shadows. Then we will mask our silhouettes and splatter paint all around it. Join us and make your own modern masterpiece!

 

Adult: “Plein Air Painting” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
No need to venture far for this Plein Air, meaning outdoor, painting class! Easels will be set up on our plaza and you will find your cityscape composition. Both acrylics and oils will be available and basic tips and Plein Air techniques will be provided before beginning your artwork! We will meet inside the classroom.

 

Wednesday, June 16

Studio 51: “Origami Father’s Day Cards” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
With Father’s Day approaching, we have the perfect project for you. Learn how to make adorable origami dress shirts that pop open into a card! Decorate them with buttons, origami neckties, and other craft supplies and personalize the inside with a photo or message.

 

Adult: “Chalk Pastel Portraiture” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
In this chalk pastel class, we will talk about proportional sketching, using mark-making to achieve shape and texture, and layering tones. Get those fingers messy and join us for this portraiture class. Bringing your own reference photo is welcomed.

 

Thursday, June 17

A Glass with Your Class: “Drink While You Ink” 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm | Ages  21+
Let loose in this free-form art class where we will learn how to make art with alcohol inks. Working on a glass vase, you will leave this session with a functional art piece to take home and display. I’ll pour the drinks while you pour the inks! Your first drink is on us.

 

Wednesday, June 30

Studio 51: “Fourth of July Dye” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
The fourth is coming up and we can help with the perfect outfit! Join us for a red, white, and blue tie dye session where you will learn several techniques beyond that classic spiral pattern. Bring your own white clothing item (cotton or other natural fibers required) and plan to pick it up the following day. It will be washed, dried, and ready to wear!

 

Adult: “Oil Painting Landscapes” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
In this oil painting class, we will talk about several techniques for painting landscapes and the details within. We will cover atmospheric perspective, palette knife painting, representing trees, grass, and more. Come with an idea of what kind of landscape composition speaks to you.

A Glass with Your Class: “Brush and a Beverage” 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm | Ages 21+
Come get galactic in this painting class where we learn several techniques to achieve a glowing, beautiful galaxy painting. Learn how to paint shining stars, planets, and soft blended cosmos. Your first drink is on us.

 

Wednesday, July 7

Studio 51: “Picasso Portraits” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
In this class you will learn about Picasso and what Cubism means in an artwork. We will then talk about a few different ways to approach a cubist drawing and each student will make their own Picasso-inspired portrait!

 

Adult: “Plein Air Painting” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+

Wednesday, July 14

Studio 51: “Warhol Pop Art Prints” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
This class will introduce you to Pop Art and we will talk about the work of Andy Warhol and his colorful screen prints. Then we will create our own Pop Art prints using paper, paint, and a variety of items to print with!

 

Adult: “Abstract Fiber Art” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
If you’re in need of a new kind of two-dimensional art, you won’t want to miss this class. Working on stretched fabric, we will learn several fiber arts techniques to create a textural, mixed-media art piece. We will incorporate elements of stitching, weaving, appliqué, beading and more!

 

Thursday, July 15

A Glass with Your Class: “Sip and Sculpt” 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm | Ages 21+
Join us for a drink and some creativity in this jewelry-making class for all experience levels. You will learn several techniques in sculpting with polymer clay to create your own jewelry designs! We will sculpt, bake, and assemble your custom jewelry during this class and your first drink is on us!

 

Monday, July 19 – Friday, July 23

Sci-Art Camp 1 – 3 pm | Ages 10+
Join us for the camp where art and science collide! Running from 1 pm – 3 pm July 19th-July 23rd, each day of the camp will focus on a different area of science and students will engage in a variety of unique art projects. Learn some microbiology, chemistry, sculpture, fiber arts, and a whole lot more! Sci-Art Camp is $200 for non-members and $160 for members. Recommended ages 10+.

Wednesday, August 18

Studio 51: “Tissue Paper Suncatchers” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
Join us for a class that celebrates the summer sun! We will be making colorful, translucent suncatchers using tissue paper. Customize your colors and make any shape that you like! You will love taking this project home and hanging it in your window.

 

Adult: “Chalk Pastel Landscape” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
In this chalk pastel class, we will talk about achieving depth, using mark-making to form shape and texture, layering tones, and blending. Get those fingers messy and join us for this landscape class. Come with an idea of what kind of landscape composition speaks to you.

 

Thursday, August 19

A Glass with Your Class: “Brush and a Beverage” 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm | Ages 21+
Stop by for a drink and some art in this painting class where we will create a misty landscape. Learn how to use color theory to create mood and how to effectively blend your paint to achieve a soft, misty atmosphere. Your first drink is on us.

 

Wednesday, August 25

Studio 51: “Weaving” 1 pm – 2 pm | All ages
In this class students will learn the basics of weaving and how to achieve different shapes and textures with a variety of materials. We will incorporate some creative stitching and knotting techniques and finish the pieces off with beads, feathers, etc.

 

Adult: “Oil Painting Pet Portraits” 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm | Ages 14+
This oil painting class will teach you all you need to know about painting your beloved pet. Learn how to achieve a proportional likeness, use blending techniques to simulate depth of field, and how to represent fur in a detailed, yet realistic manner. Please bring a photo of your pet for reference!

 

THELMA is located at 51 Sheboygan St., in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District.
