The Mavericks playing for THELMA’s Annual Street Concert

Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced it is bringing one of the best bands in the business, The Mavericks, to play for the annual street concert.

The concert has free admission due to the sponsorship by Jose Cuervo. The concert is set for Friday, August 10 at 7:30 pm and will be held on Sheboygan Street in front of THELMA.

The Mavericks were founded more than 25 years ago by Raul Malo and Paul Deakin as a standout alternative band in a Miami rock scene dominated by hair metal and punk. Improbably, they were noticed by super-producer Tony Brown in Nashville, and when they got signed to innovative MCA Records, they upended expectations in country music.

While country is in their roots, their blend of Cuban grooves and Bakersfield-inspired twang netted them several Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards in addition to a Grammy in 1995.

“We are thrilled to host a Mavericks concert. It will be a veritable dance party,” said Jacqui Corsi, THELMA Executive Director. “They are the perfect band for the street events THELMA has become known for in our community.”

The band has charted numerous singles and albums. There was some time off and re-jiggering of personnel, but they came back strong with 2013’s In Time and 2015’s Mono, albums that provided abundant material for a refreshed and unmatched stage show.

Band members include: Raul MaloPaul DeakinEddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden.

The concert begins at 7:30 pm and the bar opens one-hour prior. There is a limited area for bag chairs. Backpacks and carry-ins will not be permitted. Any other bags or purses will be checked at the entrances. Food and a cash bar will be available for purchase. Anyone drinking alcohol beverages will be required to purchase a wristband. Proceeds from wristband sales go toward future programming at THELMA.

THELMA is located at 51 Sheboygan St., in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac’s Arts and Entertainment District. THELMA is a member-based, privately-funded non-profit dedicated to providing arts experiences not readily available in the area. Intimate concerts in the Great Hall, street concerts with major performers, indoor films, and art from world-renowned artists are available at THELMA. THELMA also offers a stunning backdrop for weddings, meetings and all social and corporate gatherings.
