PEGASIS is a vocal trio of Dominican sisters (Marvelis, Rissel, and Yaina Peguero) and jazz guitarist Matt Hillman. Currently based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, the four members write, produce, and perform their original music. Their lyrics speak of the struggles and triumphs of everyday life, on being kind to our minds and bodies, on finding love and happiness, first and foremost within ourselves, and accepting each other as a part of the global collective we call humanity.
From an early age, music was an integral part of the trio’s lives. Their parents, also musicians, spent much of their time traveling to different places to sing. This would become the beginning of Marvelis, Rissel, and Yaina’s love of music and performing.
PEGASIS came about when Matt Hillman joined the trio bringing his extensive experience in jazz guitar. Matt studied at The McNally School of Music and would finish his jazz studies undergrad at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay where he would meet Rissel, his future wife and music partner. The two formed a Jazz Duo called ‘M.a.R’ and released two albums (‘The Fourth Mode’ and ‘Reflections’) in which Marvelis and Yaina would provide background vocals. The two groups spent the better part of two years performing at each other’s shows before making the decision to morph the two groups into one, thus creating PEGASIS.
