Nikki Hill
Feb 15 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Those who have seen Carolina girl Nikki Hill sing agree—this isn’t just another newcomer on the scene, this is a ‘whiplash’ moment.

With a no-filter energy, and explosive live show, she delivers a sound that will make you believe in rock ‘n’ roll again! Nikki’s unique voice with raw rock and soul dynamics mixed with the strength, passion, and honesty of blues shouters of the past, steers the driving guitar and a tight rhythm section, to create a breath of fresh air with their fast forward approach to American roots music.

Her enthusiasm for music is simply contagious! One club advertisement called Nikki “The Southern Fireball”, “the New Soul Sensation”, “amazing R&B Shouter”, and even “the new Queen of Rock n’ Roll”.

If you haven’t heard of her yet, prepare for your ‘whiplash moment’—you have been warned.

Eric Jacobson Quartet
Feb 21 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
In collaboration with the Fond du Lac High School, attend our jazz night with the Eric Jacobson Quartet!

As a performer, teacher and clinician Eric Jacobson is in high demand. Eric has performed with Grammy Award Winners Phil Woods, Benny Golson, Brian Lynch, Tito Puente Jr. and Eric Benet. Eric has had the privilege to perform and study with well known jazz artists such as: David Hazeltine, Joe Farnsworth, Jim Rotondi, Tim Hagans,Willie Thomas, Slide Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severinsen. Eric studied trumpet under the infamous Johnny Hemkes throughout his High School years in Racine, WI.

Eric toured the world in 2010-2013 with Milwaukee’s local soul band “Kings Go Forth” but now stays a bit closer to home and is a top call trumpeter for high profile gigs in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago. He recently performed in the windy city at the Green Mill with the Chicago Yestet and at Andy’s Jazz Club with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra and We Six. He frequently plays with the popular Milwaukee-based Latin band De la Buena.

Since 2010, he has been the trumpeter with the Conservatory’s resident jazz sextet We Six, providing fiery solos and contributing arrangements and original compositions to the band’s repertoire. Eric has also been busy in the recording studio. He recently recorded for Johannes Wallmann “The Sweet Minute Big Band” and Willy Porter’s CD Human Kindness. Watch for Eric’s latest CD as a leader, Discover, to be released under Brian Lynch’s jazz label Holistic MusicWorks.

“Eric is the real deal! – a truly world class jazz trumpeter with a gift to inspire, motivate and teach students of all ages with dramatic results. By sharing his own passion for the music with his students, he instills that “fire in the belly” that makes great musicians; and in instilling a love of practice and a robust work ethic, he equips his students with the tools to excel for a lifetime. And most important, he provides a compelling example of excellence for his students by his own brilliant playing.

Eric Jacobson Quartet will be hosting a clinic with students February 22 at the Fond du Lac High School.

As Artist in Residence for the Wisconsin Conservatory’s Jazz institute program, I’ve witnessed at a first hand the development of Eric’s students and marveled! Students of his are now making outstanding careers in top universities and conservatories, including in my own jazz trumpet studio at the Frost School Of Music, University Of Miami.

The word is out in the jazz world about the accomplishment of Eric Jacobson as both player and educator, and he’s making that world a better place with his great work!”

Sonora Winds
Mar 22 @ 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm

Sonora Winds is a Twin Cities-based woodwind group that performs actively and enjoys playing rarely-performed music for winds.

They formed in 2016 with the goal of bringing accessible, lesser-known music to audiences through transformative performance experiences. Sonora Winds wants their patrons to discover and re-discover works that are worth hearing, but got lost in the midst of standardized performance programs. The group embarked on a recording project supported in part by grants from the Polish American Institute of Minnesota, and the Twin Cities Polish Festival to bring to the forefront lesser-known and some never recorded chamber music by Polish composers. The project brought three different instrument combinations onto one recording. The CD has been released this fall 2019 by MSR Classics Discover label. Following the recording, the group concentrated on programming in different venues across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Recently, Sonora was a recipient of a Travel Grant from University of Minnesota to tour Texas. At the same time, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council supported Sonora’s community engagement efforts through Arts Project Support Grant to create a chamber concert series in retirement communities across St. Paul. Sonora Winds have been invited to perform at Chamber Music America’s Conference 2020 in NYC.

Marcia Ball and Tommy Castro and The Painkillers
Apr 18 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm
A night of serious blues and dancing boogie woogie featuring Tommy Castro and Marcia Ball!

Ever since he first picked up a guitar and started making music, Tommy Castro believed. He believed he would not only be able to make a living playing music, but could develop his own signature sound and style. Today he is famed not only for his hard-hitting, impassioned vocals and his blues-infused, rocking R&B sound, but also for his striking, original songwriting and exhilarating stage show.

Four time GRAMMY nominee and winner of eight Blues Music Awards, singer/pianist Marcia Ball knows how to raise roofs and tear down walls with her infectious, intelligent and deeply emotional brand of southern boogie, rollicking, roadhouse blues and heartfelt ballads. Over the course of her three-decade career, Ball has earned a huge and intensely loyal following all over the world. Her exquisite piano playing and passionate, playful vocals fuse New Orleans and Gulf Coast R&B with Austin’s deep songwriting tradition into a sound No Depression described as “a little rock, a lot of roll, a pinch of rhythm and a handful of blues.”
