Davina and the Vagabonds
May 18 @ 7:00 pm

So much more than just a blues act, Davina and the Vagabonds’ shows are filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, dark theatrical moments and tender gospel passages.

Davina’s voice and stage presence defy category in a different way. Davina has been compared to Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, and Billie Holiday, but comparisons don’t suffice: she is a true original.

“One of the most distinctive and expressive vocalists to come around in a while, with tight backing from the Vagabonds,” – Phoenix Blues Society.

Don’t miss this THELMA favorite! 800 lb. Gorilla is a rock/jam band based in Indianapolis, Indiana. With a rock and roll core, the band pulls together funk and jazz influences to create driving, catchy, danceable grooves. A five-piece band, 800 lb. Gorilla places rock-solid guitar, funky keyboards and sax on top of a drums-and-bass rhythm section. The band’s original music blends indie-esque songcraft with funky, jazzy improvisation.

Originally formed by brothers Mark (guitar) and Daniel (lead vox) Humphrey, the band has evolved from a hard-rock power trio into a funk and jazz style after adding Kwame Newton (keyboards/alto sax) and Connor Allen (bass) to the collaboration. 800 lb. Gorilla has enjoyed a warm welcome from music lovers as they have developed their show on stages across Indiana and Ohio. The band intends to take the musical interplay higher, and continue to reach music lovers far and wide.

Jacob Miller
Aug 30 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Jacob Miller attributes his enamoring sound to two brilliantly contradicting influences — formal performance and nomadic adventure. Miller is an accomplished player, having spent seven years leading a sextet, touring throughout North America and internationally to play for crowds of thousands. During that time, his relationship to music surpassed eccentric to border on fanaticism. He dedicated the entirety of his being to investigating, studying and dissecting American music, and his hard-earned understanding of sound is evident in the thoughtful arrangements and subtle production touches that make up his upcoming release.

However, Miller considers his professional stints and intense self-education no more important to the whole than time spent working as a farm hand in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina — which shaped his devotion to the finger-picking style of the region — or countless hours given to vintage recordings alongside aging locals in Appalachia — which culminated his profound appreciation for phonics timeless. Whether it’s resonating across Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall or quietly stirring a Midwestern living room, Jacob crafts music with care, sincerity and audible joy.

The singer/songwriter describes his eclectic sound as “world influences” with an “old-style, finger picking approach, with more contemporary song-writing and composition.”

The Jimmys
Dec 20 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

The Jimmys have been tearing up stages with their blend of blues, soul, funk, and R&B for nearly 10 years. Award-winning keyboardist/singer/songwriter Jimmy Voegeli has assembled an all-star band. With multiple awards under their belts, and a growing legion of fans, the band will crush anyone in their path on their way toward absolute galactic domination.

Wisconsin’s seven-piece club band, helmed by deft singer-keyboardist Jimmy Voegeli, makes a good case for international notice behind the rousing entertainment of their record since forming in 2008. They run the stylistic gamut – jump blues, shuffles, boogies, golden-era R&B, even New Orleans traditional jazz – using an honest, crisp expressionism that pegs them as eclectics of a particularly interesting sort.

Nikki Hill
Feb 15 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Those who have seen Carolina girl Nikki Hill sing agree—this isn’t just another newcomer on the scene, this is a ‘whiplash’ moment.

With a no-filter energy, and explosive live show, she delivers a sound that will make you believe in rock ‘n’ roll again! Nikki’s unique voice with raw rock and soul dynamics mixed with the strength, passion, and honesty of blues shouters of the past, steers the driving guitar and a tight rhythm section, to create a breath of fresh air with their fast forward approach to American roots music.

Her enthusiasm for music is simply contagious! One club advertisement called Nikki “The Southern Fireball”, “the New Soul Sensation”, “amazing R&B Shouter”, and even “the new Queen of Rock n’ Roll”.
